When light sublimates matter... unless it is the other way around? Terre Promise unites ceramics and light in creations that are in a class of their own. The concept is already making waves, as it is nominated by the BEL Prizes for their "Award of Excellence".

The concept

Based in Brussels, Terre Promise creates a new kind of contemporary lighting. The lamps are made entirely of ceramic, both the base and the shade. Dereck Daubechies, the designer behind this beautiful project, has chosen to explore the limits of clay to create lampshades of a new kind, capable of magnifying the natural beauty of the material while sublimating the light that emanates from it. When we look at these resolutely design objects, our eyes are immediately drawn to the pure curves of the lamp, but also to the rawness of the material, which inevitably awakens the senses and arouses emotion. So contemporary, yet timeless.

The material

Terre Promise is the result of meticulous research into clay. After several months of testing, Dereck Daubechies chose to mix different clays in order to achieve the colour nuances and textures that are so characteristic of the Brussels-based brand. These unique finishes are an invitation to get closer to simple things and the essentials, but also to be firmly rooted in the present by giving yourself a moment of peace and quiet through privileged contact with the material. "The finishes offered by Terre Promise evoke memories of a connection with nature. All I want is that they encourage you to slow down and dream", explains Dereck Daubechies. Terre Promise's unique lighting creations share the organic energy and poetry of the earth. The lamp is enhanced by a refined touch: a leather-covered switch made by a craftsman in Brussels.

The technique

Terre Promise believes in the virtues of craftsmanship while advocating excellence. Each piece that leaves our ateliers is created with a fresh eye. This guarantees perfect originality, much like a work of art. Every new creation is therefore unique. What's more, Terre Promise has chosen to push back the limits of the material by opting for a contemporary approach to the craft, while favouring handmade manufacturing. These traditional methods, brought up to date, give a soul of their own to each new creation signed by Terre Promise, and help to sublimate the beauty of its curves and imperfections.

The proposal

The creations of Terre Promise invite you on a sensory journey through the natural beauty of the earth. These extraordinary lights transcend their utilitarian function to become works of art that captivate the eye while illuminating the living space in a unique way. They also stimulate the imagination, encourage spiritual elevation and invite you to reconnect with nature and yourself. A well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of the world!

By using raw materials and highlighting the roughness and nuances of the earth, Terre Promise celebrates the harmony between ancestral know-how and the magic of contemporary creation. The aim of this Brussels-based label is to enable architects and interior designers to transform any space into a naturally welcoming, contemporary and warm place. Each creation inherits a delicate finish where the details are master, where the careful and subtle shapes open the doors to a universe of contrasts, blending the contemporary with the timeless. Terre Promise, unique and magnificent creations!

Terre Promise will be present from 15 to 17 December at the Autoworld museum, alongside 60 of Brussels' finest Houses, for the 2023 edition of the BELPrizes with the theme "A Journey of Expertise".

The designer

The story of Terre Promise is inextricably linked with that of Dereck Daubechies, a designer fascinated by clay and the possibilities it offers. "What drives me is the conviction that a ceramist can use his creations to share all that clay has to offer, particularly in terms of well-being, connection to the present and grounding. And everyone can enjoy its benefits," continues Dereck Daubechies. Self-taught in his training and practice, he works with clay to create unique pieces whose energy and poetry express an artistic grace that reflects his passion for the beauty of this primary material. Trained from an early age in traditional martial arts, he has cultivated a taste for balance, detail and aestheticism ever since. With a perfect mastery of the techniques involved in working with ceramics, he designs, from the first sketches to the finished object, creations that are both utilitarian and decorative, subtly oscillating between tradition and modernity.
